We are developing Aoapsis, an upcoming dark sci-fi novel. A race across space that begins on Mercury and follows a cast of characters entering the expedition for differing reasons. Work is internal and ongoing.
A dark sci-fi novel in development
The story begins on Mercury, where humanity has lived since the fall of Earth. The people there are unhealthy and desperate from the extreme climate and cramped surroundings. The government sets the rules and stakes of a race across space, explaining them vaguely but enough to convince those with money for spaceships to take part.
A main cast of characters enters the expedition for different reasons. Some are driven by religious belief. Some are looking for a better life. Some want answers about their existence. On the way to Venus, they take specialized Mercury mushrooms grown by a group called the Space Monks. Futuristic space drugs have become a way for what is left of humanity to cope with terrible living conditions. The altered climate has bred unique plant life.
An encounter with a rival group forces the cast into conflict with other space racers while they are under the influence of the mushrooms. In the chaos of combat, the visual style shifts. Blood is perceived as being replaced with flowers or glitter. The work stays internal. Nothing is finished or published.
